This is a type of Esopus Spitaenberg apple first noted in 1826. The fruit is small to medium with a thin tough skin. It is bright red to carmine in color. The flesh is off-white to yellow, firm, crisp, tender and juicy. It is very aromatic with a sprightly subacid taste.
